Description

Franco Riccardi is a still red wine of great structure, created to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Franco Riccardi, Olympic épée champion and founder of Azienda Nettare dei Santi. Made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it comes from selected grapes subjected to appassimento, expressing an intense, complex and harmonious profile. It is a red wine of character, suited to those seeking aromatic depth, body and ageing potential.

  • Colour: Deep ruby red with violet hues.
  • Aroma: Pleasant, distinctive, ethereal, intense and persistent, with herbaceous and fruity notes.
  • Taste: Full, robust, spicy, austere yet velvety and harmonious, slightly herbaceous with hints of morello cherry, dried fruit and liquorice, with well-balanced tannins.

  • Harvest: Selected grapes harvested at full ripeness in small crates of about 5 kg
  • Vinification: The grapes are transported to the winery and placed in a dedicated drying room, where they remain for about three months. In December they are gently destemmed. Classic red vinification takes place in 70 hl stainless steel tanks, with targeted and repeated pump-overs that keep skins in contact with the must-wine for at least fifteen days, in order to transfer the colour, aromas and tannins of the dried grapes into the finished wine.
  • Ageing: About 6 months in barriques, followed by maturation in small stainless steel tanks
  • Serving temperature: 6–8 °C
  • Food pairings: Ideal with pasta dishes served with rich sauces, grilled meats, red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses
  • Ageing potential: 12 months at the producer; suitable for long ageing of 5–6 years
  • Acidity: 5.6 g/l
  • Annual production: 14,000 bottles (only in vintages when the grapes reach excellent ripeness)
